Hello, I have aquired a columbia 22 but it has no sails. It didn't cost me much so I was not riped off but I have been having trouble getting new sails....if there is anyone who has old sails they are willing to sell it would be great but if not can someone tell me a good place to buy some used ones? Thanks,Max

sails

If you are able to find a sail that is not an exact match but will fit in terms of luff and foot. Even if it is a bit too small it will still work. I my opinion there is too much emphasis on going fast and not enough on just being able to go. I have visited Bacon and can tell you that they won't sell a bad sail. you have time between now and spring to earn some $$$ and save them and buy what you need come spring. Should you find what you want and not have all the $$$ you might be able to work an arrangement with your folks. If you honor it, then you will have established good credit, and you will be able to get their help in the future.

jobs

Jobs are good to have. They give you a reason to have to be some where at a set time, you stand a good chance of learning something that you never thought of trying. And having a little jingle in your pocket is nice.

Furler or hanks?

Max, If you can remove the hanks on your jib, you may be able to thread it into your furler. If not, then the way to go is to remove the furler for now, if you can, and use the hanks on your forestay. Larry Wilson

sail ho

brought my new Cal 20 home from auction and discovered the sails for it are actually for a Columbia 22. I've got a main with one set of reef points and a jib, looks to be a genoa with a 10' leech. I've no idea what the age of the sails is, but they're in very good condition; stored in a dry warehouse in sail bags. Sails will be shipped to buyer clean; if I see anything that needs repair (didn't on first inspection) I'll get it taken care of or leave it at buyer's discretion. Sails are located at Camano Island, Washington, but can be shipped anywhere. Asking $400 for the set OBO; anyone with with a main and jib for a Cal 20 could talk me into an even swap with no effort. -- Matt Beland matt@rearviewmirror.org http://www.rearviewmirror.org (9/2005)

some ideas for your sails

Greetings- I have a 1971 Columbia 22. Although I already had a mast and boom, I purchased some parts from a friend. Amongst them was a newer mast and boom from a Catalina 22. The mast is almost exactly the same size although slightly taller and longer. It had more to offer in terms of hardware and had a track for a spinaker pole. At anyrate the measurements for a Columbia sail and a catalina are very close. Heres the basics- main sail Luff is 20'8', foot is 9'6". If you look on e-bay, you will find this size fairly frequently. Prices vary. I am getting ready to bid on one now, if you are interested, write me and I will let you know how it turns out. Also keep posting about your boat. There isnt really alot on the web about our boat.

Got workable sails thanks for the advice

I already found and contacted Matt about the columbia sails. he already sold the sails but had some older ones for sale. I now have a slightly to big genoa and a short main but they have ben working fine. Think the main is streched out of shape but it worked in 30 mp winds so no complaining here. thanks for all you help! oh and I got my rolling furling system off. I have been looking for a replacement main from a catlina 22 but theres none on e-bay yet. I will contiune to look thanks again
