Sailboat Painter in Indiana?

Hi All,

I just bought a 2000 Hunter 260 and am thinking about having her painted. It currently has the factory white hull paint and a red/brown bottom anti-fouling paint. I'd like to change the hull color and, probably get rid of the anti-fouling paint, as I intend to keep it on the trailer unless I'm sailing.

Can anyone recommend a boat painter? I live in NE Indiana but am willing to travel for quality work.

Thanks

Perhaps you could locate an auto or truck body shop that specializes in epoxy type paints like Imron or Awlgrip that would be willing to take on a trailerable boat.
With all of the RV manufacturers in Northern Indiana, someone should have a lead on a reputable source. Really no need to find an exclusive boat painter. The skill is in the prep work and the application.

That's not paint on your hull. It is gel coat. Do some research and find out the negatives of painting over perfectly good gel coat.

If your existing bottom paint is the ablative type, and that is likely for a trailered boat, it will eventually wear off evenly. So I wouldn't waste labor and dollars removing that which will remove itself.... besides... just because you trailer your boat and sail in fresh water doesn't mean you won't get growth on it..

Dr. Hoppy;

Send me a private email with phone and address. I will research for you and then advise on the bottom painting of the boat. Over the years, I painted and repainted 26 and 260's over 500 times.

Thanks, Dave. Forgive me but I tried to send you a private message but the link didn't work. Do you have your account set to receive them?
