I am not sure what it is called but I have heard that there is a system that rates a boats ability to handle weather and rough seas. Or the way they rate it's sailability? I would like to kinow what it is called and how do I find what your boat is ? Thank you All Alan

I thought about it and realized that it sounds like I am looking for the capsize ratio as you said. What I am looking for is a rating that is given to a boat that shows it's ability to withstand heavy water. I know this sounds dumb but I can't remember the exact name. Inother words a small swing keel boat might be good for small inland lakes where as a larger full keel boat can travel across the ocean. Sorry for sounding stupid. Thanks again Alan

Reading Ross's link reminded me of another sailboat of the era . In 1957 Ben Seaborn I think his name is. The designer of the Thunderbird, designed a sloop that is 48' in length with a hollow bronze keel (as a water tank).It has a very small adjustable rudder on the keel, a raised saloon and a reverse shear.It also has roll up boom furling It is probably one of the most beautiful boats I have ever laid eyes on . The owner for about 50 yrs has never restored this boat, he has had it meticulusly? maintained by professionals through out it's life . The boat is named Penelicut (nickname Pink Elephant)after a tribe of natives in the pacific NW I believe Some may call it a fat pig but it is a work of art. He wants to sell it so he can Golf more. I think he is about 98 yrs old.I could be so lucky.

The old 'capsize ratios' were dismissed in the mid 1980s as they omitted important 'form/shape' stabilities. I believe it is now illegal to sell any boat within the EU that does not have a "CE mark/rating" ... Overt Bureaucracy intended to control 'everything' at great cost.
