Sail Windows?

On the Mariner Website, someone was asking if it was worth adding a window to their main. I have never sailed a boat with a window that I thought was effective. On a heel, the window is located near the foot and sitting on the windward bench I end up looking at the sea just past the leeward wake or the jib covers the window anyhow. Most of them have scratches and wrinkles making only a hazy image possible and that leeward buoy you're drifting towards blend in until it's too late to react by the time you can identify it through the plastic viewport.
Finally, here is a sail window I can embrace. even on the most acute heel, you can even see through the raised gunnel.:)

What do you think? Would the improved visibility render the current set of sailboat right-of-way rules obsolete?

I showed our 9 year old and now she wants me to build her one! It IS pretty cool though.
Is this the kind of thing your 9 year old has come to expect from you?
Will you be my dad?

She honestly thinks i can fix/build anythhing! When she was five i showed her how fun water balloons are, when we got done throwing them all over the house and yard I told her to help me pick up all the balloon rubber in the yard. She did and brought ALL the peices to me and looked up and said lets do it again! When I told her that we had to get more balloons she welled up and started balling her eyes out and told me to fix them! That was the first time that she remembers me NOT being able to fix something! Now THAT is the kind of trust I had always hoped for! She still thinks I can do almost anything and she will be 10 next week! Will, if i did build one, I would duplicate it for you! Love all your woodworking ability! I am currently a high end finish carpenter but was an auto tech for 27 years. Love seeing what you do with wood, and talent. You are an artist, keep it up!

Thank you, MisterR6.
I can't read your post thru without tearing up. That's exactly how it is with my daughter too and she's now 24.
You and your daughter are so lucky.

I love that Will. Just afraid it would be to easy to lose!
I hadn't thought of that:yikes:. So true.

BTW, when I get around to building my ultimate cruiser, I'm putting a window in the bottom.
Imagine your kids, grandkids, etc. watching dolphins playing in your bow wake or inspecting the CB thru the hull window.

So. Are we gonna talk about sail windows?
I have none and don't know what I'm missing.

Never mind the glass boat nothing to sea here.....

Sail windows are like glass ceilings, good for some, not so good for others, who can only get a glimpse of where they can't go. :(
