I would love input on sail trim for the O'day 25. Also, where should I place my tells? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you -David

David. I bought a book on sailtrim a couple of months ago. Unfortunately it is written in sailspeak. Its like those Jimmy Buffet lyrics, "It was like the jitterbug, so simple it plum evaded me." There is an article in the JAnuary 2002 Sail magazine by Tucker Thompson. It helps but he also jumps into sailspeak i.e. "to put a more powerful shape in the mainsail." And what might that shape be The photos on page 48 look a lot like an O' 25. Good luck, Mike

David, try The Annapolis Book of Seamanship

by John Rousmaniere. It's a great source of information for the sailor. There is a chapter on Sail Trim which has lots of good information and pix to go with it. He has suggestions about telltale location as well as trim for various points of sail and wind speeds. It's a great source book for all kinds of sailing questions. I think that you'll find that there are no absolute answers about sail trim for your 25. After you understand basic trim procedures, you'll have to fine tune according to the idiosyncracies of your loved one---just like the rest of us!! I also want to put a plug in for the excellent Sail Trim forum here at the site. Tom
