(Trying this again, because of my faith in most of the contributors to this forum. First, let me thank those who made helpful replies, and I apologize that those are now lost. I withdrew my previous request because of replies from folks that told me I shouldn't be looking for a simulator, and that were rude and obnoxious. Please don't "crap up" this thread if you don't see the value of a simulator. Simulators are valuable training and practice aids for inexperienced and experienced people alike. The Navy and other armed forces, civil and military aviation, nuclear and other power generation industries, and many other fields spend billions per year on training, skill building and retention simulation systems. Their value in sailing is unquestionable, in my opinion. So, please, I do not seek a debate on whether simulators are a good idea, or valuable, or not, I am simply seeking a simulator which comes close to satisfying my needs. If you want to discuss this parenthetical paragraph, please contact me via PM. Thanks for reading).

I am an experienced sailor. I am seeking a sail trim simulator that has controls for mainsheet, traveler, outhaul, and luff tension (either halyard or Cunningham) on the main; and jib sheets, lead block position, and headstay sag (via backstay tensioner) on the jib. I'd also like settings for wind speed and variability and sea state: current/tides, wave height and period, variability, etc.

I have found many games and racing simulators, but nothing quite like what I want, so far.

Does anyone know of any?

Thanks,

jv

J,
I'll be watching this post to see what you come up with.I looked for the same thing and for probably the same reasons. I need to see what effect the changes to the sail have on speed, heeling and the like. Experience is the best teacher but simulated experience now is better than waiting for years of inconsistent winds to teach you something. I found one cheesy 2D one that was free. Another racing sim was available but I was too cheap.

All those previous replies are not lost. I still have access to them. If you want to see them again, just let me know.

I would still recommend the north sails simulator which allows you to change all of your controls and see the impact on the sail (s).

As an experienced sailor I find it very useful every spring.

Think I found what you're looking for. Check out www.nouveda.com. App has controls for sail shape and trim including adjustments for genoa cars, backstay, traveler, halyard tension, vang and outhaul. It is available for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Windows. The iPhone app costs $7.99. I haven't tried it but am interested in your thoughts if you do. Looks good though.

Tried it - eh, not really that good. It looks nice, but there's really not much to it, as far as I can tell.

Sail simulator 5 is fun, you have control of the traveller, cunningham, vang and outhall
