Gennie winches, tracks and cars
Peter,It's like Chuck said. You're going to have to experiment with the placement of the winches, tracks and cars in order to find the right area for them. I think that I sent you the jpgs of my winch and track set-up for single handing the Gennie. If not, let me know and I'll send them to you. The placement of the tracks depend on the size of your Gennie. I'm using a 125%. At the time when I experimented for placement of these on the combing, I used a conventional Genoa with snaps. You may want to figure on having a roller reefing set-up some day, and take this into consideration when you plan for the tracks location. One of the best ideas that I came up with, was the clam cleats in back of the Gennie winches on the combing. They make life so much easier, when single handing. Some guys like those self tailing winches, and the rubber do-Hickeys that you can buy that make an ordinary winch self tail, but the clam cleat behind the winch serves the same purpose with no fuss. When you tack, you only need to reach over and take the sheet off the clam cleat and pull it straight up off the winch. Then, when you come about on to the new tack, you put one rap on the other winch and pull as much slack out of the sheet as you can, and take two more raps, pull it up to snuff, and lay the sheet into the clam cleat. It doesn't get any easier than that. Joe
