My recently purchased '94 H26 is missing the sail stop and I am wondering if there is a substitute I can get or what the easiest way is to get a new one ?

can you define "sale stop"? Perhaps you could add a jam cleat to hold the line, since they work well.

The easiest would be to
call Hunter, There should have been a stop attached to a srting on the port side of your main sail slot. It is a odd sort of thing and I don't think I've seen anything like in a hardware store or catalog. It is an L shaped metal rod, That is flattened out in the middle of the horizontal leg of the L. Good luck.

Sail track stop
Tim, you could get one from Hunter, or you could get a somewhat better one from West Marine. Look in their catalog under "Sail Track Stops", they are about $7. You have a West Marine in Burlington.

5 - minute homemade stop
I needed one right away in April (after launching the boat) and didn't have time to order one. I grabbed a bolt that had a diameter a little larger than the track slot. I ground two opposite sides of the bolt near the head so they had a flat surface and the bolt could slide into the track the same way the sail does. This prevents the bolt from turning as you had tighten the nut (use a washer under the nut). This has worked great so far. It is easy to insert and remove and nearly invisible against the mast but I consider it temporary until I can re-attach the one that was on the mast. The nice part was that I could fashion it in 5 minutes with hardware laying around the shed and a dremel tool I keep on the boat.

My Solution
The pin that came with my old 1996 H26 was an "L" shaped pin that locked into the small holes inside the mast track just above the boom. This hole after years of use became elongated and my pin kept falling out at the worst times. My solution was to replace it with a Quick Release or Detent type pin. The kind that has a small spring loaded ball at one end and a finger ring at the other. I drilled the old hole to the proper size and popped the new pin in. As a precautionary measure I ran a small line through the finger ring and around the mast. Never had another problem. Cost was about $2. Jeff

Metal Close Pin
At the local hardware shop, I found a small metal close pin that is exactly the same size as the track in the mast. It works like a charm! I found that the L-shaped pin from Hunter elongated the track, & kept falling out. My close pin slides up approximately 2 inches from the opening in the track, doesn't hurt the track, & is easily removed if I want to take the sail off the mast. Cheers, Rick
