I have a Hunter 28.5 1985 , the mainsail hanks have started to break so I would like to replace the entire slide and hank system. any help or suggestions as to where I can purchase the parts would appreciated.

are you up to the task?

Bill:Are you up to the task of sewing all of the slides on? I am assuming that they are sewn into the sail. You can also get them from a sailmaker. They usually have many of the popular slugs in stock. You may also want to contact Bainbridge for the teflon slides if you are changing them out. I just had this done on my H'31. The sailmaker put metal ones in for the top slug and for each reef point. I think we paid $120 for materials and labor.

Replacement parts

Hi BillI have a 89 H28 that I had to replace some of the slides and hanks on, as a few of them broke. I just went in to my local chandler with an old slide and hank. They had the slides in stock, as they are a common item. However, they did not have any of the plastic hanks as you probably have with your sail. They tried phoning around for the plastic hanks but couldn't get them anywhere. The fellow advised that everyone seems to have gone to small stainless steel shackles. I just replaced the ones that had broken (along with a few spares of each) and they have been working great.

use soap

we coat ours by rubbing them with a bar of soap. It makes it a lot easier to pull up the main.

Check with SailCare

I had my main cleaned by SailCare last winter and had them replace all my old white plastic slides with Battslides at the batten pockets and Allslip slides at the intermediate points. Works like a charm and not too expensive. They can also sell you a StrongSystem which is excellent. Check out the link below for all their products.
