Sail slides

We bought a 1985 Hunter 28.5 this year. When we put on the mainsail it had various sail slug attachments on the luff. Understandably, the mainsail goes up and down with a lot of difficulty. Does anyone know what size slugs the mast track was designed to receive and how they are supposed to be attached to the luff cringles ?

Find a local sailmaker to help....

you can go a couple of ways: 1. Figure out what slide fits best in the mast, buy the slides and sew them on yourself. 2: Figure out the best slide & go to a sailmaker & have them R&R with the right slides. 3: Find a local sailmaker who will come to your boat, figure out the slide situation & fix the sail. Try the sailrite people for info, supplies & help.

might wanna try

I bought a 1985 28.5 as well. The first couple of times I went sailing, the main was stiff then too. I opted to spray it with a little lubrication from my local BoatUS store. They had just the thing for sail tracks. Now I raise the main without a wench.

No Wench?

Brian, I'm sorry to hear that your woman left you after you lubricated your sail slugs.

Gene, don't worry! They do things different..

Gene: Don't worry about Brian, they do things a little different in the Windy City! But actually McLube is a good thing to try. Throughly clean the track to remove and dirt and old lube that someone may have used (usually makes it worse rather than better). Then spray the track and slugs with McLube.
