Sail reconditioning?

Putting my sails away for the season. Sails seemed "bagged out". Can reconditioning take care of that problem? How long should sails last without replacement? I would guess that my Doyle sails were the original ones on the 97 boat. I've looked at the Sail Care site and contacted them, but don't know whether that will help. Couldn't find anything on repair or reconditioning on the Doyle site. Suggestions?

Sail Care won't help blown out sails

We had our genoa "Sail Cared" last Winter but they just cleaned it and stiffened it up and repaired some seams. We are very happy with what they did but IMHO their service is for relatively useful sails. If your sails are "baggy" then I can't see their process fixing that. New sail time. Rip Edmundson

Time for a recut

Dick, For racing a sail is good for about 5 years. It may need to be recut during that time to take the baginess out. For crusing you will get about 8-10 years. Beyond 10 they will not be performing well. I suggest that you contact a Doyle dealer in your area and have the sail recut. They will reduce the draft and give the sail real shape again. Bruce

I agree

Once the sails are recut, you'll point higher, have a better feel for the wind, and go faster. It's much less expensive than new sails.

good responses

It is good to see good responses and they are right on. Any good sail loft can help you. Thank you Bill, Bruce and Rip Crazy Dave Condon
