Does anyone have a standard sail plan for a Mac 25? Looking for a matrix for what sails to use when.... i.e. Winds 12-18 Genoa (155 -170)or #1 and full Main; Winds 18-24 #1 Jib (110) or #2 Jib (95) and Reefed main; ...etc... I have just been going with my gut feel and am curious if a more better decision tree exists... I can handle being overpowered but want to maximize the boat's efficiency.. Thanks in advance....

The last two times there were small craft warnings

out, I reefed up and used the working jib, only to get outside of the jetty and find the wind blowing 8-10 with a 2' swell. Who can tell?

My rule of thumb

If there are no kids, genoa up to 15 mph, if there are kids, genoa up to 8 mph. Really the issue is my wife freaks out when the boat heels too much, and the kids are onboard.

Out in a blow....

I have a 155 Genoa, a #1 about 110, #2 the original MacGregor Blade and #3 a smaller storm Jib. I have a single reef point on the main. I was out last New Year's in gusting winds up to 30 knots with the number 2 and a single reef. This was on Hampton Flats in the Norfolk Area.... I sail in differing winds and sea states and do it year round.... I typically use the Genoa up to 15 Kts, the number 1 from 15-20 with a reefed main and the number 2 with a reefed main 20-30... I have not had to resort to my small storm jib yet.... I lock down the keel in the higher winds.... If any of this sounds too far out of line, I would appreciate comments.
