I just purchased the boat and it came with 2 almost identical size headsails. One is an older original and is standard in all respects. The other is a relatively new sail of a MUCH MUCH stiffer white normal type material. It is so stiff it is difficult to bag. Could this be sail ment to be rolled on furling gear? Thanks bruce loewe@usa.net

new sail

It's probably just a very new sail. They are very stiff and crisp when they are new. Is it white? If it has RF tape vs. hanks then it would be for RF.

New Cloth

Bruce, New sailcloth is always stiffer than old sailcloth of the same weight. As the resin matrix that stabilizes the new cloth breaks down over time the cloth becomes softer. Racing Dacron is very stiff when new. Some sailors prefer to roll these sails rather than fold them. Any sail will work fine on a furler. Thanks, Bill Colombo Doyle Sailmakers
