Hi all,

My name is Lauren and I'm SAIL Magazine's Assistant Editor. For our August issue, we're writing a story about cruisers under 30 feet. We're featuring short (300-word) contributions from owners of pocket cruisers about why they love their boats, along with specs and photos of the boats and their owners. Specifically, I'm looking for owners of the MacGregor 26.

If you own one and you're interested in contributing, please email me at lsaal@sailmagazine.com so I can give you additional information. The deadline (including answering questions I have once you email me) is May 20.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Are you looking for owners that own a X or M which are the newer water ballast power sailors that can get up on plane or from the S or D owners with the older water ballast displacement hull with small (up to 10 HP) outboards or either?

Thanks,

Sumner

Sumner,

Thanks for your quick response. Is there a big difference between the models? Is one more representative of the McGregor 26 as a whole than the other?

Do you know the company closed?
all models are now no longer in production, so the pure sailboats and the later X and M power sailors could be reasonably covered...

hull shape, engine size, 2 rudders vs single, centerboard vs daggerboard, are a few difference in models from 1988 to current year.

you probably want to visit macgregor-sailors.com (where the newer model owner typically visit)

Yes, we're aware that the MacGregors are no longer being produced. Thanks for clarifying some of the differences. If you're interested in writing on your boat, you are more than welcome. If you could just specify the model you have when you answer the questions, that would be wonderful. If you can also email me photos of your boat and of you, I'd appreciate it. We'd like to include some photos in our magazine.

http://home.ussailing.org/Assets/Offshore/PHRF/Hi+Lo+Mean+Report+September+19+2011.pdf (page 16-17) note, no years listed.... the 1987-1989 were the what we call the 26D (daggerboard), usually rates a few seconds faster than the 26S 89-95 (IIRC) (swing keel or centerboard) and we typically call both the 26C for classic. cabins are almost identical. hull is same except for rudder and centerboard/daggerboard. then you get into the X models... the 1st power sailor. then the 26M (a better sailor, but still a power sailor). both the power sailors are excellent candidates for a great loop trip.
