Did anyone else notice the advertisement of the Hunter 240 in this month's sail mag? It showed the 240, on the trailer, about to be towed by a Mazda Tribute, a mid size SUV. I presume that this was the 6 cyl model, but I didn't think even this would be enough to pull her....

ad

I'm just finishing up a long hard season in the trenches of tax accounting. I've had that ad tacked up in my cubicle since the day after the magazine came out. I own a 240 and tow it with a 3.0 liter Ford Ranger. I do want a bigger truck for those 10 days a year I tow the boat more than up and down the boat ramp. I have added heavy duty load carrier shocks to the rear end of the Ranger and it doesn't do too badly. I towed about an hour Saturday on the highway at 65 mph without any sway at all. Before I installed those shocks I towed the boat once on the highway and that was enough! The back end was smashed down and the sway and bounce was VERY scary! For $200 installed for the shocks I'll try to make the Ranger last another year as opposed to springing $24,000 for a New full size pickup that I don't need 355 days of the year.

I have a tribute

I have not towed with it yet, but it does have a pretty peppy 205 hp, 6 cyl in it. In fact it is the Ford Taurus engine. The trailer hitch is only a Class II (3500 lbs max). I would think that the only trailerable cruiser that the Tribute could tow would be something with water ballast like a Mac 26. I'll stick with my H 170 that I am picking up next week.

Towing a Hunter

I tow a H260, <4000lbs with a F-150 with a 302 engine. It does ok, but she does slow down and down shift even on small hills. I wouldn't want anything smaller even for short distances.

Chevrolet Trailblazer

I just towed a H-260 from Oklahoma to Nevada with a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. I won't go into the details but I traded the Trailblazer in on a Avalanche two days later.

Sam Morgan -please elaborate

Sam, Please share your horror story. I related my first long tow with my Ford Ranger 3.0 Liter about a year ago. That was a nightmare, and I only had an hour and a half of a tow. I'm sure my story is in the archives somewhere!

Towing with a Trailblazer

Here is more info on the tow of a H-260 from Tulsa, OK to Las Vegas, NV with a 2002 Trailblazer. The Trailblazer was rated to pull 5,700 pounds but that number should be closer to 4,000 pounds. Shortly after leaving Tulsa I got a "Service Engine Soon" light. I called GM using OnStar. They checked the computer and told me they could detect no problem. The next day climbing into Albuquerque the car was really struggling. I called OnStar and they directed me to a dealer who worked on the car for about four hours and told me they could not fix it. For the rest of the trip lots of things started failing including the cruise control and the radio. Climbing through Searchlight, NV I started getting heavy white smoke out of the tail pipe but it did not last. Then the automatic fan failed and the engine started getting so hot I turned off the air conditioner. The engine did not overheat but I did since it was 100-degrees outside. I decided I could not trust the vehicle so I traded it in on an Avalanche. It was ten months old at the time. Any other questions you can email me at F105PLT@AOL.COM
