While sailing I like to identify the boats that are both very pretty and very ugly. Does anyone know of a reference for sail/hull logos? Tim R.

Try "Field guide to sailboats of North America"

Tim, I've seen Sherwood's "A field guide to sailboats of North America" in bookstores and it is packed with line drawings and has a chart of sail logos on the end papers. It tends to be heavy on old dinghy racing classes, but it also has racer-cruisers and should be good for identifying most of what you might see. (link to Amazon.com's page below).

Insignia Guide

In August of 1985, Cruising World published an Insignia Guide as a pull-out included with their August '85 edition. Do not know if they ever updated or published later editions. Was quite comprehensive at that time for North American sailboats.

has a guide on the inside front and rear flaps. I still have that 1985 guide (dog-eared by now), and I don't think they ever redid it. Stu
