I have a 135% genoa on order from my local loft for my 1985 Hunter 25.5. They do not have any dimensions for this cut of sail. Can anyone with a 135% tell me what the measurements should be? Thanks Russ

I'd worry about these guys.

Russ: Most lofts have this information available in some way, shape or form. I would NOT rely on anyone other than the sailmaker to provide the correct measurements. They should have a worksheet so you can take the basic measurements off you boat if they are not willing to go to the boat and do it themselves. In this case you may as well order a sail on the internet. I think if it was me, I'd run away.

I strongly agree with Steve

Most all Sail Lofts ,,<of any reputation> have those books. SabreSails.com will give you an online quote for most every Designed Sailing Boat. I aint saying use SabreSails,,(allthough they are very high Quality and affordable.) just saying that if a Loft does not have the gumpsion to go out and measure your Vessel, or does not have that Data, find another Loft. Any Measurments you need can be found at the HOW or just about any Sailmakers Loft,,under Used Sails. Johnny

Verify luff length

A loft should visit your boat to verify the luff length on your roller furler, or forestay. If they need anything else, then they don't have a design for your boat, or a way to design one. Sail shape would probably be wrong, even if you did get the edge dimensions for them. So they don't have a 135 to offer you! Find another loft. Doyle has a good one on this site, and they certainly have a design for your boat - as does every other competent loft. When I got quotes for our '77 h27 sails, the local Doyle, UK, and North lofts all had designs. And all planned to visit the boat to verify key measurements of the boat. All were willing to match competitive prices. Finally, the Doyle loft I chose continues to give me good, free advice about sail use and maintenance in our area. You can find a competent loft locally or on the web, and I hope you do. David Lady Lilliy

Agree on Sails

David, The other guys are right on. I got a new roller-furling 130% genoa from AirForce Sails (Sailnet: www.Sailnet.com) and am very pleased with it--fits perfectly. Thy will quote on-line, but they insist that you take 12 separate measurements directly off the boat before they make the sail. The reason is to get the sail shape right. GOOD LUCK! Find a new loft.

Sabre Sails had me measure my own boat because they are so far away. They wanted to verify that the boat was the dimensions they had on their chart. My friend had tell Rolley Tasker what size sail he wanted and what boat it was for, because they are overseas. The one advantage of a local loft is that they measure the boat for you and give you personal service. If you are not getting that, then I'd go to a less expensive loft and buy it through the mail.
