Sail cover for Hunter 18

I keep my boat on a mooring for 90 days each summer. Even in the ADK there is a lot of sun. I fear this is damaging my sail, since I leave the main on the boom, tied up with bungee cords. I can put on a basic sail cover, as the sail is detached from the mast and loosely rolled. Or I could put on an awning or canvas that extends down to the rails of the hull. Which is better? Anyone do either of these?

An awning directly on the furled sail will chafe the sail. Get a sail cover to cover your sail... that's why they call it a sail cover... or remove the sail when not using it.

I am rolling the sail (dry) and using bungee cords to hold the sail on top of the boom. Then I have a loose sail cover that lays over the rolled sail to protect it from the sun. I could not find anyone who sells covers for a sail this small that is not still in the mast track. Just needs to be 9' long and have snaps along the bottom and ties at both ends.

I'd try Lee Sail Covers. Give her the dimensions you need and she probably can sew one up for you. Won't be the typical cover but sound like it would be easier to make than a standard cover.
