I attempted to clean the sacrificial panel on my jib today with little success. I used StarBrite Sail and canvas cleaner first at the recommended dilution, then tried it straight. It never touched the heavy soil or the minor mildew spotting.

It must be me, because I have never had success with ANY StarBrite Product. Does anybody know of a product that will work without destroying the fabric?

I tested a small area with Clorox Cleanup, It does the job, but I am concerned that it will weaken the fabric, so I am hesitant to go any further with it.

Doug,

Scour the net on this subject. You'll get a variety of responses. One of the most prevalent is to mix laundry soap like Tide with Oxiclean with water, submerge the sail and soak for 24 hours. Lay out on a tarp (tahp up here in Maine) and scrub with a stiff brush. Rinse like crazy. If you didn't rinse it, would it blow huge bubbles next time you sail? I think about things like that.

Good luck!

Go to Ace Hardware and look for a cleaning product called "Wink" . Not only will it get out the dirt, this stuff removes rust off of Dacron without damaging the fibers.

I also like Oxy Clean when nothing else works.

I would also check out the Sunbrella site for cleaning tips.
