this time of year - a week, would be vacation and ever so pleasant a trip...
How much...going rate for captain on the southern bay...$200 a day and expenses..

Agree have made most of that run. Weather is the key. Just keep in mind pump outs seem to be more scarce in the Va part of the bay. The 30 has a small tank. One aboard and it might make the trip without pumping at least midway.
Like MLampner, I have made most of that run as well (Annapolis to DC - 3 days) and it was a blast. Of course we did it in January, so it was less pleasant than you'll experience.
For a 30 foot boat look for 30 miles a day average. I would suggest a longer trip with shorter days. Solomons to the Coan River, Smith Island, or Tangier Island. Tangier Island or Smith Island may be a good option if you have a shallow draft. From there you can do Deltaville or maybe to Norfolk. Deltaville to Hampton isn't a bad run (I think about 24 miles).
One thing about the Bay is the tides. They make a big difference and it is far better to ride them then fight them.

Made the Annapolis to Norfolk run several times. 3 days easy but all day sailing, but give yourself 4 and enjoy the ride. From Easton to the Potomac is a long day, that is better as two, then a day to Norfolk area and a day to the harbor.
If you motor you can make it in a day. I made Norfolk to Harrington Harbor in one day going straight through. Crew would have been nice to take a spell but starting well rested (I had to wait for the tide) at 2100 and arrived at 1600 the next day.
With two onboard we did a straight through run from Great Bridge (below Norfolk) to Selby Bay on the South River. Left after 8am when Bridge and lock opened and got in at 7:45am. Did it in August and had nice morning but weather turned bad, rain and high seas. Motored the whole way on a 38' Seafarer.
Did Annapolis to Norfolk on a 22' sailboat with crew of 3 years ago and it took about a day and a half. We had good wind out of North.

But the timing of tides/currents will be important ..... and Id add one day from Deltaville (Jackson Creek, etc.) to Mobjack Bay (any river), then off to Norfolk. The 'long day' is going to be Solomons (anchored in Mill Creek, a mooring at Zanisers or anchored off of Spring Cove Marina) to Deltaville.
4 days @ average 5 kts.
I was crew (captain and I) on a delivery from the North East river to Norfolk about this time last year. We went non-stop and did it in 27 hours. Motored to just shy of the Bay Bridge when the motor died and then raised sail (reefed main and scrap of jib). Winds were 20-25, with gusts of 30, and it was quite the rocket ride ( we were delivering one of the surviving boats from the 1979 Fastnet race, so we knew the boat was up to it), we stayed on the same tack the whole time! The worst part was crossing the Potomac with a wind against tide situation (biggest waves I ever saw on the Bay). We charged per 12hr day, for a captain and a mate. We were paid well and the owner was very happy to has his boat there quickly.
