The caps or tops on several my safety cable/line stanchions have broken in half. The top cable runs through the center of the cap and that is where they are breaking. The boat is an 81. The stanchions themselves seem sound. I would like to replace the caps only, if possible. Also, if I had to bet on it, I'd say the cable is orignal. Should that be replaced? Any ideas? Mahalo (thanks) Dan

My cable is over 20 years old and still going strong. Enjoy.

In all probability your life lines are useable, check for cracks in the white vinal covering, and rust bleeding, if severe, they will need replacing, about the top end replacement caps, if you can't buy them, you could replace them with end caps that fit on stainless furniture.

Broken stanchion caps

Hi Dan, my name is Ken Keitges and I had the same experience as you are having. I solved the problem by taking one of the caps to the Florida Vocational school in Orlando. They made duplicates of it out of aluminum; I then had them chromed at a shop in Melbourne, Florida. One year later no problems, no corrosion, no problems.
