Passed along to us by Trinkka:

"It is with great sadness that I report that Chuck Rothert, "Lucky Bum," passed away on this past Monday, April 27.

I'm so sorry to hear about Chuck. My deepest condolences and prayers go out to Rick, and Chuck's family and close friends. I'm really going to miss
Chuck and all the great correspondence we had on sailboat modifications
through the years. We used to swap pictures of our latest boat projects,
back and forth.

I've never met him, but I feel that I've known him long enough to call him my pal. He was a great guy and I know that God has a place for him in Heaven.

Rest in peace, Chuck.

That is sad news. Although I did not know Chuck I feel like I should have. I know Woodville, Ohio and Put-in-Bay and used to own Penn Yan boats. Chuck must have spent his SBO time over on O'Day, a place I have not visited much. Always hurts to lose a sailor. Our club lost two of my sailing friends in the past months.

This is really sad news. Loosing a member of this community is like loosing part of a family. It is amazing that where ever you go when you meet another sailor they are like a long lost friend.

Almost a neighbor

I've followed some of Chuck's threads and never realized that he was practically a neighbor. He lived only about 30 miles from me. I will miss his contribution to this forum and the greater sailing community.

This is sad. I really do hope to meet many of you that I have read so much of what you contribute. I probably have read 100 threads for every post I have contributed. There are just so many people here that have such great things to pass on.

My condolences.

This is really sad news. Chuck was a felllow O'Day 222 onwer. He and I had met through O'Day Owners' Website. We then visited several times on S. Bass Is. (Put-In-Bay) on Lake Erie. He and his brother, Rick, were fine island hosts.

He was really a great guy. ...always a pleasure to see and to trade emails.
I'll miss him.

Ed,
A couple of years ago, I told Chuck that I was thinking of buying a gallon of Super Ship Bottom Ablative paint, and Chuck said, "Hey Joe, why don't you become a forum member of the Penn Yan Club?" "You can get a discount on the SSBP because they sponsor us." I told him; "Hey Chuck, I'd feel like I'd be taking advantage of the club just to get a break on the paint!" But Chuck said, "you don't have to own a Penn Yan, just write a few things in the forum once in a while" Chuck even signed me up for free coupons at Harbor Freight. He was one swell guy and I'm really going to miss him. He had a heart of gold. I still have all the pictures that he sent me of all his boat mods. Hopefully, we'll all get together again some day in that good place.
Joe
