Sacrificials in M25

I had some powerboat guests aboard this weekend. The talk turned to DC and RF grounding and finally to sacrificial zincs. The Grand Banks owner has to replace his engine's zinc sacrificials every year. He says they are pencil sized plugs. I've read the manual for the Universal 25 on my C36, no mention of sacrificials. Am I missing something?Wayne

Zinc Anodes

Wayne You need a Zinc anode attached to your engine shaft, this anode sacrifices itself instead of your expensive propellor. Its to do with the electrically current that runs through your yacht ( and others around it ) and water. Electricity and water do not mix well, this activity eats anything metal. Get a diver to stick one on now, and have him check to see if you have a Prop left.Good luck.Wayne

Heat Exchanger Anode

I have an M25 also on my Catalina 34, and there is a pencil zinc on the heat exchanger. Its very easy to get to and change (port side bottom of heat exchanger). They cost less than three bucks -- I just put a new one in last week.

Thanks for the info. I knew about the sacrificials on the prop shaft, I change them every year (keep two on at all times). But, I am surpised that there was no mention of the pencils zincs in the heat exchanger. The previous owner removed the 2" and replaced it with a larger one (I presume 3"). But, I'm at home now (70 miles from the boat). The original HX is in the garage, and I located the zinc on it, so should not be problem to pick some up when I go to the boat this weekend.Thanks againWayne Aurora B
