sacrificial anode

Fellow Vegans,

At the risk of appearing to be a complete idiot, if I don't have an inboard motor (I have an outboard) do I need a sacrificial anode? I'm in salt water, yes. One came with the boat, the guy that cleans the hull says it isn't "burning off" very well?

What metal do you have in the water besides your seacocks? Is the outboard
left in the water or tilted up? Where is the zinc and what is it attached to
that connects to the boat's ground (battery negative) internally?
