Check archives.

The Welland was discussed recently and someone gave excellent info. You can find it by searching the "Forum Archives" for "welland". Then there is St. Catherines Marina at the head of the canal, they might be able to help. I am originally from your neck of the woods but no nothing about Sackett Harbor. Is that on one of the small lakes and then you have to up/down a river to get to Ontario?

Hope this helps

Sugar Loaf Marina is on the Lake Erie end of the Canal. Plenty of good places to eat within walking distance etc. The web sit for sugarloaf is www.portcolborne.com/marina If you need an extra hand going through the canal let me know. I have wanted to make the trip but have not had the chance yet. Glad to help if I can. You can contact me at cdickhut@earthwatchwaste.com

Alternative

Pete, I know that mid May can get pretty chilly out on Lake Ontario, but another way to get to Lake Erie would be to sail your new Catalina across Lake Ontario, probably SW towards Sodus Bay, then West to the Wellen(sp) Canal. I hear that the trip through that canal is good, but you need at least three people with you. If you travel the Erie (Barge) Canal, you will have your mast down and motor the whole way. It would be a warmer trip I'm sure, but then why do they call it a sailboat if you have to motor? You might also check the time-table for the canal opening. Here in Rochester it is drained for the winter. Not sure when it opens again, but there are plenty of Websites I'm sure that list all of that information. Try http://www.google.com for your search.
