Pete, I know that mid May can get pretty chilly out on Lake Ontario, but another way to get to Lake Erie would be to sail your new Catalina across Lake Ontario, probably SW towards Sodus Bay, then West to the Wellen(sp) Canal. I hear that the trip through that canal is good, but you need at least three people with you.If you travel the Erie (Barge) Canal, you will have your mast down and motor the whole way. It would be a warmer trip I'm sure, but then why do they call it a sailboat if you have to motor?You might also check the time-table for the canal opening. Here in Rochester it is drained for the winter. Not sure when it opens again, but there are plenty of Websites I'm sure that list all of that information.
