On my otherwise reliable Sabre 28, I recently had the unfortunate experience of having the chainplate snap and break off while sailing last month. Fortunately, this did not also result in a dismasting, since there was no foreward support for the mast. I had a rigger get the chainplate welded and we both replaced it with the forestay. The rigger said the break probably resulted from stress on the plate and its weakening over the years. Has anyone had a similar experience, and if so was it resolved some other way, such as using a different chainplate configuration? Walt
