Hi,
While working on my stuffing box of my Seidelmann S299 and giving the outer brass double nuts a little twist, the threads fell apart. Now the brbass prop sits on the keyway with nothing to hold in place. Shaft diameter is 1".

Any suggestions to get another prop shaft and also how to get the thing out. The keyed flange that couples to the transmission also seems to be stuck.

I guess this is the long way to replace stuffing box packing.

There's a great write up on this site for removing shaft coupler or check the PSS dripless shaft seal website. Assuming there's room to work between transmission coupler and stern tube seal you maybe able to install either a new stuffing box or a dripless seal system. I'm not familar with your boat so I can't advise as to layout of shaft. If that's not possible you may want to do as I did above and pull engine and then bring shaft forward to remove. Good luck, it can be a lot of work and time, again see my writeup.

I bought my new 60 inch ss shaft on the web... then had the local prop shop machine the threads. You will need to pull the rudder to get it out tho'

Finishing the job

I actually hired the local marine machine shop to make me a SS shaft.

The rudder was dropped, however I did need to dig out a 1.5 foot hole below the rudder to remove the rudder shaft.

Was a sucess and only cost me $225.00
