S27 PHRF

You said a S27 and an S37. Which one. I have a 37, but will admit to not having the foggiest notion of the rating. Mine has a red stripe on the mast, a few feet down from the mast head. It is my understanding this was from the factory, and the rating is different if you have a main that does not go above the stripe, as opposed to going to the mast head.

Nathan; PHRF ratings vary from region to region,however you can go to: www.ussailing.org/phrf and find the S37 rating in your area.They give a high,a low, and a mean rating for the US.Also, your local rater will give you what he believes is right for your sailing area.It is good to know the numbers,just in case he has not rated a boat such as yours.Check with the Sarasota Sailing Squadron and ask who the local rater is for the Sarasota area. You will hear a lot of bitching by yacht owners about not getting a fair rating but the truth of the matter is if you hit a few 20 degree wind shifts over the fleet....matters not what you rate, you'll likely be out front. If you are thinking of racing, I suggest you check out the US Sailing group,and the people who handle all matters racing, USYRU[United States Yacht Racing Union]. Hope this info is a help.
