s2 9.2a rotten mast step

I've got a 1978 9.2a in Lake Michigan. The stringers under the compression post are wet and forward side is rotten. Source of the water was ground plate bolt holes leaking. I've re-sealed the bolt holes and am now drying out the stringer.

Has anyone been through this before? How did you dry/repair?

When I was surveying boats for purchase I found 2 other s2 9.2a's with the same problem.

I have a 1976 S2 9.2A, the floor under the mast compression post in the cabin was depressed and the door to the head didn't shut properly. I investigated and found that there was nothing supporting the post under the floor. I removed the lav holding tank and cut an (approximately) 12"X14" access hole in the floor. I then raised the door frame with a 4X4 and hydraulic jack and inserted a teak block under the post area.
There are some previous posts in this forum about the same issue, the area seems to be poorly supported and ventilated.
