Rusty anchor chain ...

My trip to Desolation Sound resulted in rust on the 150 feet of anchor chain and I am wondering if I should grease it or what?

The rust is making a mess of the locker and can't be good for the chain. Someone was asking about re-galvanizing a chain, what is that and is that the solution?

You may want to shop for some new chain before you jump into restoring it.

Had 200' of 5/16 + an anchor re-galvanized for around $100 (if my memory servers) a couple years ago. Used Emerald Galvanizing in Seattle - http://www.egalv.com/process. So far has held up well.

If you want to get rid of the rust easily, pick up a couple gallons of evap-o-rust. About $20 a gallon at Tractor Supply. It is amazing stuff and will completely remove all the rust. From that point you can paint, grease, re-galvanize, rubber-coat, whatever..

If your chain rusted in one trip it isn't galvanized.
