Are you sure it's rust? My 1984 37C has a lead keel. The first time I did any repairs on it, I found the original primer to be a rust color. Maybe it's just the primer or something else that looks like rust?Bob MillerGusty Getaway
I had the same problems on my 1984 34'.I had it blasted and painted. Those cast iron keels are very prone to rust,especially in salt water. On your annualhauls just have the procedure repeated. You may also consider a complete west system treatment. Somewhat spendy but well worth it.
I sand blasted my 34 then wraped in 4 layers of 10 oz cloth with system 3 epoxy almost like inbord ballast now it relly was not that bad of a job but you will need to sling the boat so as full acess is avaiable to the keel
I was having my iron keel blasted and re-painted each time I hauled it, but the rust would be back every time.I had a local firm, Osmotech, epoxy and fair the keel. After two years, it looked just fine. That was a year ago.Shambie
