Hello Al, Thanks for taking these questions. My problem may be similar to the question concerning water in the rudder, but I need some clarification. I have a 91 Catalina 30 which I assume has a foam rudder? The boat was hauled in November and stored for the season. Since that time I have noticed a small (pencil eraser sized) rust spot about 2/3 the way up the rudder on one side. This spot is wet and the rust has run down the side of the rudder from it. There is no sign of buldging in the area and the rudder looks normal. I assume that some small amount of delamination has occured in this area. My concern is where is water entering the rudder from (other than at this location), and where does the rust come from? Can the water have leaked through the foam? Obviously I need advise on how to repair this problem. Any insight would be appreciated. Tom Behrendt

Rust

Tom, In most cases it is not rust. I always hesitate when it is in the location you describe. That is the place where the tube ends. The foam may be fractured which would allow rust to leak out. I would advise cutting away the area affected area to look. Do that and contact me again by phone 352-529-1104 or e-mail BobWalker10@aol.com or visit our web site @www.newrudders.com Good Luck, Al Walker Foss Foam
