I noticed a post on the general forum about rust specks on the decks. As you know we took delivery of a new 260 last Set/Oct. We are now finding rust specks appearing all over the entire deck. It would seem that someone has used an angle grinder cutting steel near the yacht and has showered the deck with sparks. I figure if we put up with them for a season the specks of metal dust will eventually rust away and the problem will be solved. Anyone had similar problems for it might be something that is happening in or near the factory. Although thinking about it the trailer was custom built here in Western Australia so I guess she was sitting near the fabrication process. Perhaps thats where it happened. Never mind we might just wait till they rust away? Thoughts appreciated! Regards Mark

Oxalic Acid

Make a paste of Oxalic Acid (a white powder) and water. The acid will chemically dissolve the rust stains and will not hurt the gell coat. You can also find a similar product for cleaning water softner resin beds. It works just as well.

Rust problems

I have never used oxalic acid, but have heard that you have to be careful of the strenght as you can do damage to the gel coat. Don't know for sure though. I had a huge probem yesterday when I was cleaning my H240 and I left the hose with nozel on the cockpit seats and the nozel leaked and when I came back after 20 minutes..... there was a large, wide stain of rust, running down the seat, on the floor and down the transom. It would not come out with Green Clean or anything else I had so I the guy at the marine suggested I use something called CLR (short for calcium, lime, rust). Got at hardward store and I poured it on the stain where it started and I just let the liquid follow the same path as the rusty warter followed and after about 10 minutes the area was almost totally clean. I reaplyed more and did some work with a sponge and it looks better than new. Worked for me, Good luck, Daniel
