On the starboard side of the rudder, there is a rust trail that goes down a good foot and a half - the trail starts about 6-8 inches from the top of the rudder. I've taken the paint down and can see that its coming from what looks like a small crack. I can fill the crack and barrier coat the area prior to painting, but my concern is the actual corrosion this may reveal inside the rudder. My fiberglass guy looked at it and didn't think it was a problem - has anyone had any experience with this? Any ideas on the proper fix/prevention of further damage.

You may want to consider taking the rudder apart.

Kevin: You may want to consider taking the rudder apart. This is probably the beginning for the rudders demise. There are some welds in these older rudders that tend to fail once they start to rust. Check with a local yard that has some experience with this vintage of Hunter and see what they have to say.
