Running wires in an Edson pedestal.

I just bought a 1985 Catalina 30 with an Edson pedestal. It does not seem to have any kind of conduit inside to keep any wires out of the chain and linkage. I want to run a few NMEA2K devices and was looking for advice on how to do this without fouling anything up. (3 drop cables, a power cable for the chart reader and the transducer cable.)

Thanks!

I'm with Maine on this as well. That pedestal is a busy place, that barely accommodates the compass wiring. A super pain in my opinion.

Here's a tip as well. If you do decide to run the wiring down the grab tubes, (which I urge you to consider), soap those wires up well. Even with a couple of wires already in the tube it will push through nicely. Without soap it can be frustrating bordering virtually impossible..

An electrical snake can be a great help.
Sometimes the connectors don't allow you to get every wire through and you may have to decide if one wire will have to go somewhere else.
You should definitely keep other wires out of the pedistal.

Go to any Home building place and buy 1 electrical sticking channel (tube) Plastic of course.. slide down the pedestal along outside of chain to find opening in center of the pulleys. once you do this now tie wrap to secure both ends.. Now slide your cables down the channel. even if the chain may rub once in a while.. your wires are safe! Note: I put mine down and the chain is 1/2 to 3/4 inches away from the chain. Hope this helps!
