Running Rigging

Greetings, I recently took ownership of a 1994 Beneteau 351 Oceanis with in-mast furling. The previous owner seems to have jury-rigged nearly all of the running rigging. The mainsheet was rigged such that it had no mechanical advantage. I addded a new block (2 sheaves with becket). But early on I needed to use a winch to tack the mainsheet. Second, the rigging for the furling was torqued through the block on the deck and this too was getting almost no advantage from the sheave -- it exited the block at an almost 45 degree angle. This particualr block is riveted (not on a swivel), but again the way it was rigged made it nearly impossible to outhaul without a winch. This has made me question nearly all of the ways in which the boat was rigged, and if anyone has images that they would be willing to share of how they are rigged from mast to cockpit, I would be most grateful.

running the rig

The outhaul on my in-mast furled '94 OC400 would sometimes need a winch, but that was before I had fully sussed out the system and how to use it. I've found that it's best to use a winch to furl the sail against a little outhaul tension to get it tight and narrow inside the mast, making it much easier to deploy the next time. Those rigs need some experience to use.
