Hi We are considering the purchase of a 25 one thing that puzzles us is the running light situation, can't tell from pictures if there is any, have'nt seen one in person yet! but seems like the perfect boat for my son and I here on the Hudson, any tips or things to know about an 1986 25 would be appreciated thanks

Let there be LIGHT !

Frank & Cory A Mac 25 is a perfect starter boat. The price is usually right and they are SIMPLE to use and understand. In a stock version , two lines make them go (jib and main) ... that's it. Once you master them, then you can trade up and start adding things like boom vangs, Barber hauls, whisker poles, travelers, and genoa tracks. Their simplicity does have a downside and lighting is part of that. Your forward running light is a single Perko brand fixture with a red and green lens. The stern light is the same type of fixture with a single clear lens. There are two white lights on the mast, a single running light for when you are under power and deck light for when are working on the deck at night. There is NO ANCHOR LIGHT unless a previous owner has added one. The original battery compartment is poorly designed and located. Maybe you'll be lucky and someone else will have addressed these issues before you. Many people just use these boats during the day and don't worry with running lights, or carry a set of battery powered emergency lights. Let us know how you are doing. There are many helpful and knowledgeable people on this site. Ol' Dave

Running lights are pretty simple to install or replace. I just replaced/fixed all of them on my V22. You can get all the parts from west marine or other store and wire them yourself. If I found a boat that was otherwise sound I wouldn't pass it up even if none of the lights worked.

Davis megalight?

Ol'e Dave and Steveo are right on with the light question. I bought a Davis anchor light, flea power and not a bad price. You just hoist it up at night for that "all around" anchor light. It uses very little power and comes with a cigar lighter automotive type plug. Cheaper and easier than wiring up a mast especially if you don't know that you'll be out after dark at anchor. This assumes you have a house battery. although, with the Davis light a couple of 6 volt lantern batteries would work just fine. Steve
