I have just started sailing my H22 this past weekend and seem to have a problem with proper jib sheet routing. I have a CDI roller furler and a 110% genoa. My question is, what route do we send the jib sheets through? Inside the lifelines, outside the lifelines, inside or ourtside the shrouds, etc. The boat sails great, but I get the impression the jib sheets are not routed correctly. I don't feel like I get enough control of the jib, and the sheets seem very hard to sheet-in. Of course my only experience sailing up to this date is a C Scow, which is a cat rigged beast of a racing boat. Oh yeah, my current setup is: The block is snapped into the 10th slot foreward of the rear stanchion with the sheet run inside the lifeline. Thanks all, Tim

about the same on mine

That's about the same as I run on mine, although some have said they run their faileads just aft of the last stantion. The sheets should run outside the shrouds or you will end up using the shrouds as blocks on a broad reach or a run. Experiment with where you place your blocks to work out the best sail trim on a reach, but I don't think it's quite as important on a run.

Outside the Lifelines

I run my sheets outside the life lines. Pointing they are pulled in with the jib almost against the life lines except for light air.

Jib sheets

On my H22 I run the jib sheets outside the shrouds, but inside the lifelines. Especially with the furler the sheets will be kept outside when furled if you outside the lifelines.

Outside the shrouds and inside the lifelines

The sail should be right up against the shrouds when close hauled (that's probably how the term originated). For this to work, the sail must be completely inside the lifelines. On any other point of sail, the foot of the sail will straddle the lifelines but that's OK because the tension in the foot will be lower. Peter H23 "Raven"
