Running halyards internal: PVC or PEX

I've been planning a project of moving my halyards internal since I'm about to add a VHF antenna, so I figured I'd do all of this at once. What I'm wondering is if folks have used PEX to install halyards, or if PVC is still the preferred way to do it. They recommend riveting the PVC about every couple of feet up the mast. If PVC is still recommended, do you also recommend riveting the PVC?

Wait, that makes way more sense but absolutely was not clear from the DVD. Maybe I’ll rewatch it. I’m good at missing details like that.
