Running aground - Bayliner vs. Hunter

I have a bit of experience running aground with my Hunter, I almost fell backwards down the companionway the last time. But I just bought a 17ft Bayliner, and golly, what a difference when you run aground at 20 knots. I hit a sandbar and slid up onto dry land. One minute, the whir of the engine and the sound of the waves, the next minute, only the sound of chirping birds and buzzing mosquitos. I had my stuffing box on my Hunter replaced last month for $1,050, now I need a new prop on the Bayliner. I hope the store that I go to for the prop sells charts and depth gauges. Maybe they'll have some fliers at the cash register for a Coast Guard Power Squadron course and for Marine Insurance.

learning curve

It's amazing how a fair bit of boating smarts can save you $$$$$$$ and maybe even your life.

John, I would strongly suggest that you find the nearest Power Squadron or Coast Guard Aux. courst on boating and take it before you kill yourself or someone else. You might also buy a copy of Chapman's and read the sections on piloting. You will need to get some charts of the area in which you boat, but until you learn to read them they may be useless. Having been in the Coast Guard Aux. I have had to rescue people like you sometime at peril to myself. Enought said.

Joke?

You're joking, right? No charts, no insurance? Please stay away from Chesapeake Bay!!

funny stuff

I was having a bad day till I read your posting!! It's scary and funny at the same time, hope not to see you sailing or motoring around the keys soon. Maybe you should post the names of both vessels so the rest of us can stay out of your way???? thanks for the laugh

Helloowwww McFlyyyyyyy

May I suggest perhaps easing off the mind altering drugs until you have safely made your home port. You might also try flying a handicapped ensignia flag off your port spreaders alerting others. Just a thought.
