I have a bit of experience running aground with my Hunter, I almost fell backwards down the companionway the last time. But I just bought a 17ft Bayliner, and golly, what a difference when you run aground at 20 knots. I hit a sandbar and slid up onto dry land. One minute, the whir of the engine and the sound of the waves, the next minute, only the sound of chirping birds and buzzing mosquitos. I had my stuffing box on my Hunter replaced last month for $1,050, now I need a new prop on the Bayliner. I hope the store that I go to for the prop sells charts and depth gauges. Maybe they'll have some fliers at the cash register for a Coast Guard Power Squadron course and for Marine Insurance.
