Well here is a update on my rudder. I have removed all of the glass and foam. The frame is in outstanding condition. It is all stainless. Iguess I am one of the lucky ones. I talked to FOSS FOAM. I dont have that kind of money. So my plan is to rebuild it myself. I have found a type of foam sheet that is just as strong but lighter and more user freindly. Once the frame has been cleaned and sand blasted I will use the WEST SYSTEM to attach the new foam to the frame and fair it out to the right shape. I also found a neet type of fiber glass to cover the rudder with. It's a combenation of mat and a unilateral woven cloth with runs of carbin fiber for a total of 12oz. Very strong and light stuff. The rudder will be lighter but much stronger than than the OEM rudder. I am sure it will outlast the boat. I am haveing fun building this rudder. This is all costing me just under $300.00. Maybe I should rebuild rudders for you all. Scott

Scott, could you post some pics?

I would love to see what the inside of the 28.5 rudder looks like. And please keep us posted on your progress. You are very ambitious. Eric Lorgus s/v Explorer

Foss Foam says..

When we talked to Foss Foam about rebuilding our rudder, they also said that they are using a better foam, skin and shape than were available when our boat was built in 1988. Just a note. Doug
