My boat came with a pedestal that I plan to remove and go back to the tiller. I have a tiller but I do not have the brackets from the tiller to the rudder post.

This is what I have.

What do I need? Is ths something I'm going to have to fab up myself or is there something not made out of gold that I can order somewhere? I've seen the brackets WM offers but at $65 it seems a bit steep.

Thanks

Brackets? My 26D has 2 pieces of SS bolted to the tiller handle and then one bolt through the tiller handle to the aluminum piece that holds the rudder.
Your Pieces of SS will attach to each side of that tube via that bolt.
By the way I think your down haul wire is on the wrong side of the roller bushing.

You can see how the tiller is attached via the bolt you have and also how the side pieces attach to the sides of the tiller and there is a top piece also. This could be made from SS or aluminum if you are in fresh water. I hate to say it but $65 for a boat product isn't that bad. You could make the tiller yourself and some have use wheelbarrow handles. Ours came with the boat and was probably made by John ( oreana123 ) on here who is departing as it came from Ida Sailor in Idaho.

I agree that the line is on the wrong side of that bushing,

Thaks guys. And not only is the haul down pennant on the wrong side of the spacer, which would be simple enought to move, it was also made out of galvanized cable, which is pretty rusted on the bottom half. I'm guessing it ain't OEM. The swaged eyes are also too large to pass though the pin at the bottom of the post.

check w/ BWY (blue water yachts). IIRC, there is a 'riser' that helps get the tiller off the deck and raise up the tiller a bit...

any pics of the wheel before you remove it?

That's why it's going away :).

The PO's late wife prefered it to a tiller. She did the driving since he is blind. Even he said if he was keeping the boat he'd go back to a tiller. His "new" Hunter 27 has a wheel though.

Looks to be a cable set up. I haven't taken any pics inside the cabin side yet but I do have this from the laz.
Just for the record you are second in line for interest in it.

Here's the inside shot of the mount. It leaks and if I were to keep it would have to reseal it anyway.
