Rudder Stops

Simple question I hope?

Does our C-310 have, or is it suppose to have stops on the steering system to keep the rudder from hitting the hull? I have two little paint-less dimples were the rudder travel is stopped when the rudder hits the hull.

Any comments? (also, and sorry to ask but my search skills seem to lack in this site. How do I zero in on past topics in the C-310 site? Even with advanced search, and our group selected, it seems I can't find past items, and get stuff from all posts. Looking for the size hatch that was used to open the space between head and storage locker under port seat and advice about switching fuel pick up to return line, for full use of tank capacity?)

Thanks to all in advance...
Russ

Thank you Paul,

Most helpful as always!

Did you add the cable stops, or was that OEM? I know I have nothing like that below.

My spring list is growing, and I will have photos every step of the way. Projects currently include:
Replacing a Joker Valve - no photos required of that wonderful job
New VHF below, with GPS / DSC and RAM MIC up topside. (still deciding best place at the wheel or on the side compartment - for ease of wire run)
New Radar post with motor lift
No reason to have a post if you don't add radar, so installing a dome to take advantage of the feature on my Standard Horizon Chart Plotter I installed last year.
Trying the new SR-21 Paint over my old VC-17, it is supposed to work just fine, will find out at 35% less cost.
Adding a dedicated start batteries, and reworking the house bank, adding the ACR and might be switching to twin Group 33's in place of the 4-D's to save some weight. (same amp capacity)
Adding an inverter

Any advice on these projects is welcome for people who have been there, done that and gotten the shirt...

1. PaulJ is the MAN!
2. I am assuming you have the Jabsco. On the Ask All Sailors forum they recommend using the Raritan joker valve which is about the same amount of duckets. For that job, wear some disposable glove. Not a terrible job, but ...

Ray,

I picked up on that - thank you. I plan this to be my first job of the season, my thought is that, over the winter months things should have "dried" up a little from what was left after the fall pump out, and back flow should be min. I had actually thought of taking this project on while the temps were still in the freezing range to slow the flow also.

Yes, I remember last time there was a surprising amount of ........ when you drop the hose.

Thanks again - Russ

My rudder stops are identical to PaulJ's. My C310 is #231, 2003 model.

Hum? Mine is a 2001, and I don't remember ever seeing anything like that, and I know the rudder is hitting the hull. It will be at least 4-6 weeks before I can even get near my boat, through the snow and such. But it on the list to check out.
Thanks all for the comments, and for the photos Paul. (you either have a great collection of photos of your boat, or full time all year access.. wish I did) BTW, looking on the old post of the hatch, I noted that a number of photos you posted are listed as no longer available - anything in that collection that might help me?

Russ, I would mount the Ram MIC on the pedestal right where you are. I have mine there and would not have anything else. It can be a pain to pull "one more wire" up that crowded tube, but it will be worth it.

Sorry that all I have is a rear view, but the larger black covered connector on the left is my Ram Mike connector, and you can sort of see the bracket I made at the very bottom where I hang the mike right next to my Humminbird chart plotter. The smaller black covered fitting to the right is where my new ST50 Autopilot wired remote plugs in, :D

I just pulled an 8 wire signal cable through the crowded tube and ended up using a little McLube SailKote to help it move along. Made it very simple with no residue.

Thanks all - yes it is getting crowded in the tube, might be time to drill (grind out) another hole and come up the port tube, as all else is run the other side. I had also thought of stopping in the engine control pod, yes lower but dependent on where I hand the mic still a nice place for all. With adding the radar, I have that large cable to pull around also, but thinking of mounting the junction box below the wheel in the back cabin. (anyone have experience removing that fiberglass cover in the back that hides all the steering gear? Seems like a nice location for making all the connections between Plotter, Radar, power and VHF) Is it just screwed to the ceiling or did someone use 5200 in there?

It's just screwed to the ceiling and the bulkhead, with maybe some silicone sealant around the edges. Lots of room to put in some terminal strips, etc.

Topic drift happening... but the eyelet on the yoke that the rudder limit cables are attached is known to fatigue and break off... no limit after this happens.

My cable clamps loosened up once, so no cable stop on that side. The boat was fairly new. Checked all clamps on steering, stops, etc. They were all loose.
