My ("new")1997 PS 37 (shoal draft 4'10") stalls reguarly when sailing with moderate winds and even with reefed main and jib. I'm wondering if the stalling tendancy is possibly the result of too little surface area on the rudder. Perhaps the rudder was simply chopped off at the bottom (length-wise)in order to accomodate the shallower keel without bothering to offset the lost area. Has anyone else suffered stalls in moderate conditions with this model PS 37? Of course we typically head up or dump the wind off the sails to regain a rudder "bite" in the water but such tactics seem inappropriate and unneeded if the rudder was not under-sized.Are there any known fixes for this stalling problem, such as increasing the area of the rudder by fabricating a new rudder with the same vertical length but greater width (extended aft)? I suppose a stronger rudder pin would be necessary?Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
