Rudder shot?

Catalina 16 trailer
Hey experienced Catalina owners! I am looking at a 1990 Capri 16 which would be great for my needs but have not been able to see the boat in person yet. I noticed this picture of the rudder. Is the rudder made in two parts or is this just split open? Any info appreciated and thanks in advance!

That's definitely split. Probably got water inside then froze and crunch. Best bet, if you buy the boat, is to get a new one from Catalina or from IdaSailor.

Thanks Chris. Do you know what these rudders were constructed of?

I'm not convinced that is a split, just looking at the photo. But, if the rudder were made of wood, it would likely be made of two laminated layers to prevent warping, and it would split just like this.
