We put our 1998 240 in the water this weekend and I found that the rudder rigging wasn't functioning. Could someone explain how the system works so I can put it back together correctly?
If it is at all like the h23 , the line is attached to the top of the rubber inside the rudder housing, then it runs thru an enternal block, and out, then up thru the cam cleats, take it off ,take it apart and look at it, it will only work one way, what was it not doing for u?? good luck MIke ,
it is a reply to that main article. If you guys click on the recent smaller boat posts on the main smaller boats page, use 24 hrs or 2 or 3 days, all the recent main posts come up on the right hand side, and all the recent replys to all posts are on the left.Let me know if that helps (the rudder info).Tom M.
I found the same problem two weeks ago. After much investigation I learned that I needed to re-tie the line. The "up" line from the center edge of the rudder needs to be tied to the stainless loop on the top of the tiller post. Then when the down line is pulled the up line is held fast and the internal pully does it's work. Make sure that there is enough slack so that the rudder and will go completely down.It took a bit of figuring but this is likely the problem.
We have owned two H240s (the first was struck by lightning). On both of them, the rudder control line has parted while we were at the lake. Both times, we had to jury rig another line down the rudder post to hold the rudder down until we could get home. This design seems to be somewhat of a problem.
