Rudder Repair or Replace-- 1981 Hunter 33

Well - the mechanic now says my steering problem is due to a very bent rudder - and the cost to remove, fix and replace around 3500 - 4500 or so (1/3-1/4 the boat's value). Question to all - is there a more reasonable way to do this ? Are there "replacement or salvage rudders out there ?

It may be worth a try to drop the rudder, take it to a local machine shop and see if they can straighten the shaft in a hydraulic press.
