rudder removal

Has anyone had any experience in removing the rudder off a larger Hunter. My 45cc is a Lewmar system. It has 4 allen wrench bolts that hold the quadrant in place and a large pin in the center of the shaft. The pin appears to be used solely with use of the emergency tiller How is the rudder attached to the quadrant other then the 4 compression bolts

If it's the same as my 466 you just remove the 4 bolts in the quadrant cap and remove the bolt that goes through the quadrant and rudder post and that's it...

Does the large bolt in your boat go thru the shaft? The shaft on my boat appears to be a cylinder with a lip on the top that sets on top of the quadrant rather then a solid shaft. I can not see a solid stainless shaft

Yes it does. There is no lip on the top of the rudder shaft on my boat. Once you remove the 4 bolts on the quadrant cap and the bolt that goes through the center of the rudder shaft the rudder drops right out...
