Is it safe to remove the rudder with the boat still in the water? Has anyone done it? It appears the rudder post tube is sealed. We will have a diver to attach straps to make sure we don't drop it. We found some delamination at survey, and if it can be repaired at the slip, it will save a huge yard bill...

Thanks
Rich

Yes, it can be done. Make sure you have wooden plugs for the tube, just in case. Is your slip deep enough to accommodate dropping the rudder?

That’s the hardest way to do it. The rudder is filled with form and therefore I presume it should float or at least be partially buoyant.
Delamination is common on Foss rudders. Not an emergency and may have been that way since new. Regardless, no rush.
