Water is coming in near the stern/rudder post of wheel steering and I understand this to be from vibration of the single cylinder deisel engine after many years of use. No visible cracks appear on the outside but is of concern. How does one repair this and what are the procedures. This is a 1978 model

C-30 rudder LEAK

Thankyou Tom. The answer to my question was found in the archives but not sure size or type of packing to use and will the boat have to be removed from the water and will the rudder have to be dropped You fellow boaters are great and this site is the greatest

JUST WENT THROUGH THIS

We just went through repacking the stuffing box and reglueing the box back into the hull on our /84 cat 30...turned out to be no big deal!Your shaft entry point should be above the water level at the dock. undo the four bolts on top and dig out the packing and take to the marine store as a sample...I believe it was about 3/4". Send us an email directly if you would like our phone number so we can talk. Good luck...Al P. sorry I forgot to include our email...ALIGNMKTG@msn.com
